Whole-Person Education

AdventHealth University

AdventHealth University is a Seventh-day Adventist institution specializing in healthcare education in a faith-affirming environment.

AdventHealth University is also connected and supported by the AdventHealth healthcare system, which makes our approach unique.

AdventHealth’s promise is to help patients feel whole, with a goal for every healthcare provider to offer whole-person care, which means to "Care for the whole person – body, mind, spirit – through the whole journey." Ellen White, one of the founders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, emphasized in her book on education that "true education" "harmoniously" develops the whole person.

That is why at AdventHealth University, we focus on whole-person education, nurturing healthcare professionals committed to delivering whole-person care.

What is Whole-Person Education?

What is Whole-Person Education?

Whole-Person education is a comprehensive approach that prepares future healthcare professionals to provide holistic care, addressing the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients.

This educational framework nurtures empathetic and well-rounded practitioners, ensuring that all aspects of patient well-being are considered in their care.

Whole-Person education is a holistic approach to training healthcare professionals, focusing on the comprehensive development of their abilities to address the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients.

It operates within four pathways: belongingwellbeingfulfillment, and purpose.

Whole-Person education translates into Whole-Person care in the hospital by enabling healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive and empathetic treatment. Practitioners trained under this model will be adept at considering and integrating physical, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects into patient care. This approach ensures that all facets of a patient's well-being are addressed, resulting in more personalized and effective treatment plans, improved patient satisfaction, and overall better health outcomes.
