Scholarly Communication Toolkit

About the Toolkit

toolbox with wrenches and screwdrivers

This Scholarly Communication Toolkit contains tools to help you navigate the scholarship process from discovery and creation of knowledge to its sharing, preservation, and re-use. The toolkit is not an exhaustive catalog of resources. It contains select tools to address the common questions that arise in scholarly communication. For additional resource on scholarship, visit the library's Scholarship: Publishing and Presenting Guide.

The toolkit is divided into four sections (with tabs along the top of the page):

The section that fits where you are in the process is most likely to have the tools you need, but be sure to familiarize yourself with the entire toolkit so that you don't miss a valuable resource.

If you cannot find a tool to fit your needs, or you would like help using one of the resources in the toolkit, please contact the library. We are always happy to help.

What is Scholarly Communication?

Scholarly communication is the system through which research articles, presentations, and other scholarly works are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated, and preserved for future use.
(Definition adapted from Association for College and Research Libraries (2003). Principles and strategies for the reform of scholarly communication. Retrieved from http://www.ala.org/acrl/publications/whitepapers/principlesstrategies.)

In short, scholarly communication is creating, sharing, and discussing our scholarship.
